ALBANY, N.Y. (WKBW) — We are inching closer to the scheduled close of the 2019 legislative session in Albany and the legalization of marijuana is still on the table.
But, will it get the green light?
We are rounding up the scorecards for our area legislators and where they stand on the bill.
A newer version was introduced on June 12th - last week.
This version of the bill tackles social justice issues that have been sticking points for many democrats.
It asks for provisions for communities disproportionally disadvantaged by the previous prosecution of non-violent marijuana offenses.
Even the state attorney general is pushing for this with a letter sent to leaders of the senate and assembly asking for complete expulsion of the non-violent marijuana related convictions in the state’s criminal justice system.
