BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Helping those in need can be as simple as providing a pair of shoes you no longer wear.

Stuff the Sneakers is a campaign coordinated by Melissa Frawley, in the memory of her late nephew Danny Frawley. Danny had a passion for helping those in need, so to honor his memory Melissa is in her fifth year of collecting donations for Western New Yorkers in need of a helping hand.

Frawley is collecting gently used or new sneakers, toiletries, socks and hygiene items to distribute to local non-profits. "Something so simple can mean so much to people," says Frawley.

Kindergartners from Harvey Austin Elementary school collected donations as part of their "character trait" education program to present to Frawley. "It's so important to teach our kids empathy instead of apathy. We need to put an emphasis on caring about each other," says Principal Demario Strickland.
