BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — New York State is making it easier for voters to get to the polls this election cycle.

In January, lawmakers approved a series of reforms, including giving voters 10 days of early access to the polls prior to Election Day.

On Thurday, the Erie County Board of Elections submitted 37 early voting polling sites to the State Board of Elections.

"Our goal is to make early voting as convenient as possible," said Erie County Republican Commissioner Ralph Mohr. "Voters who don't have public transportation or who may live in rural areas shouldn't have to waste time and money on travel. We believe these locations answer those concerns and go above and beyond what the state requires."

"New York historically has among the lowest turnouts in the nation, and early voting will make it possible for more residents to take part in the electoral process," said Erie County Democratic Commissioner Jeremy Zellner. "This list makes sense demographically and geographically, and we look forward to a very successful early voting debut."

This year's nine-day early voting period begins Saturday, October 26.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 5.
