What happened before fatal Town of Tonawanda crash?

TOWN OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WKBW) — Balloons and flowers mark the spot where 21 year-old Gianna Ameno and her boyfriend 21-year-old Tyler Lichtenberger died Friday night.

Police in the Town of Tonawanda say the crash happened just before 11 at Sheridan and Military.

It involved six cars.

Buffalo Police say moments before the couple was involved in a minor accident in Buffalo at Military and Skillen.

A police spokesperson says the complaintant, who claims to have been in a fender-bender with Ameno and Lichtenberger called police to the scene.

The caller said the couple took off after the accident, and said they had what appeared to be a gun.

Moments later, rescuers were responding to the deadly crash further north on Military.

Police in the Town of Tonawanda says speed was a factor.

Friends and family describe Gianna and Tyler as good parents to their toddler son.

Tyler's father tells 7 Eyewitness News his son was a great father, loving son and brother.

Friends from St Andrew's parish say Gianna and Tyler's toddler son attends the school, where Gianna once went.

They say, "Friends from St. Andrew's parish remember Gianna as somebody who had a big heart. She cared so deeply for everyone. Her laugh and smile were contagious. She could light up an entire room with her positive and fun energy. She loved God and expressed this often. We love her and miss her so much already."
