TOWN OF ELMA, N.Y. (WKBW) — A West Seneca man is dead after he struck a utility pole and crashed into a tree in the Town of Elma late Saturday night.
According to the Erie County Sheriff's Office, just after 10 p.m., police responded to the intersection of Clinton Street and Aurora Street. Police found a pickup truck crashed into a tree on the front lawn of 5595 Clinton Street.
The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, had been ejected from the truck and had no pulse.
Lifesaving efforts began immediately, but the driver was pronounced dead.
Witnesses at the scene told police the truck struck a utility pole before crashing into the tree.
The West Seneca Fire District announced the passing of the driver, Tyler Schenck, who was a member of the fire company.
"It is with profound sadness that Seneca Hose Company #1, West Seneca Fire District #5, announces the passing of member Tyler Schenck, who died in an accident on the evening of August 22, 2026. At approximately 10:00 p.m. on August 22, emergency personnel responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle accident in the Town of Elma. Members of the Blossom Fire Department, Spring Brook Fire District, Erie County EMS, and the Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene and worked together to manage the incident.
Tyler was a valued and respected member of our organization and a dedicated member of the emergency services community. In addition to his service with Seneca Hose, Tyler worked with the Erie County Department of Health, EMS Division; the Erie County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Services, Hazardous Materials Response Team; and Hamburg EMS.
Those who knew and worked alongside Tyler remember him as lovable, lighthearted, and deeply passionate about EMS. He genuinely cared for the people around him and was committed to helping others. Throughout his years of service in the fire and EMS communities, Tyler made a lasting impression on his coworkers, fellow first responders, and the countless people he served.
His loss will be deeply felt throughout the public safety, fire, and EMS communities."
Chief Dylan Seufert released the following statement.

Tyler’s dedication to serving others and the impact he made on those around him will not be forgotten. We also extend our sincere gratitude to the First Responders who assisted on scene last night.
