BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Wegmans is joining Walmart, Walgreens and Kroger in asking customers not to open-carry guns in their stores.
In a tweet Thursday, the Rochester-based supermarket chain wrote "There's nothing more important than the safety of our customers & employees. The sight of someone with a gun can be alarming, and we don't want anyone to feel that way at Wegmans. For this reason, we prefer that customers not openly carry firearms into our stores."

The statement from Wegmans comes just days after a gunman killed seven people in Odessa and Midland, Texas and less than a month after two mass shootings in less than 24 hours killed 22 people at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas and nine people in a bar district in downtown Dayton, Ohio.
On Tuesday, Walmart announced it will also end all handgun ammunition sales.
