SPRINGVILLE, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Erie County Sheriff's Office has identified the person hit and killed at Gentner Commission Market in Springville Wednesday.

Howard Weiss, 63 of Buffalo, was hit by an SUV in the parking lot early yesterday morning. Three other people were injured.

“It was pretty bad,” said eyewitness Harold Kemp.

Kemp was unpacking odds and ends to sell at the flea market when he said he watched the driver of an SUV hit Kemp and injure a woman he was with. Police said two others were brushed by the vehicle.

Kerry Gentner runs the office at the market. She didn't see the accident but was called over to the scene moments after it happened. She said the driver was trying to drive over the lawn to find a parking spot when he lost control.

“It's unfortunate. We're very lucky other people didn't get hurt. But, it was an accident,” said Gentner.

Witnesses said it was wet and slippery, and they believe that may have contributed to the accident. The driver appeared upset at what had happened. We’re told he was cooperative with police.

Kemp said he and his family comforted the victim until help arrived. “He was trying to get up and everyone was telling him to stay down.”

The sheriff's office says its investigation continues.
