AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) — Two people are now hospitalized at Erie County Medical Center after a car crashed into a tree and then a light pole overnight in Amherst.

Amherst police said they are investigating the crash. It happened on Windermere Boulevard around 12:30 a.m. Friday.

The victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Initially, police said no charges of any kind had been filed. But shortly after 5 a.m. they announced the driver, 25-year-old Travante Johnson of Buffalo, was issues two traffic summons for speeding and not wearing a seat belt. The passenger, 21-year-old Danay Hardy, was also issued an appearance ticket for possession marijuana.
