BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Rescuers saved two kayakers who ended up in the Niagara River near Bird Island Pier in Buffalo Wednesday.
U.S. Border Patrol agents responded to the report of a capsized kayak in the area around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday. Upon arrival, officials say the agents observed a female kayaker in the swift water clinging to a net that a nearby fisherman had extended to her.
The woman was pulled safely aboard the border patrol vessel and treated for minor lacerations and contusions. She was then transported to the Harbor Place Marina to meet the emergency medical services at the scene.
Another woman was rescued by the Buffalo Fire Department. Both women were wearing life jackets.
Police say the women are being evaluated.
