Two Buffalo firefighters injured fighting fire on city's west side

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Two Buffalo firefighters are recovering from injuries they suffered battling a fire late Sunday night.

Fire officials said crews responded to fight the two-alarm fire on Gelston Street just after 10 p.m.

Officials said the fire started on the second floor and spread to the the home's attic. Its cause is being investigated.

The damage from the fire is estimated at $80,000 to the home. Two neighboring homes also suffered exposure damage. Figured were estimated at $20,000 for one home and $1,000 to the other.

Both firefighters were taken to ECMC. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.

These two individuals were the 16th and 17th firefighters to be injured on the job since the middle of last week.
