Two armed men steal vehicle and crash shortly after in Niagara Falls

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WKBW) — Niagara Falls police say two armed men stole a vehicle Friday night and crashed it twice before the driver was taken into custody and the passenger fled the scene.

According to police, a caller reported their Chevy Tahoe was stolen at 5th and Niagara Street just before 9 p.m. Friday. The vehicle was located about two hours later by police when it attempted to evade police and in the process and struck a GMC Terrain on the 2300 block of Hyde Park Boulevard.

Police say it appears after striking the GMC Terrain the 20-year-old driver of the Chevy Tahoe lost control and struck a wooden fence in the area of North and Hyde Park.

The 20-year-old driver of the Tahoe had several open warrants for his arrest and was transported to ECMC to treat his injuries. The passenger fled the scene.

The 30-year-old driver of the Terrain was taken to ECMC for treatment of multiple fractures.

Police say the crash remains under investigation and the crash management team is working alongside the narcotics division to determine the charges.
