Crews fight fire near substation on Ohio Street

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Buffalo Fire Department worked to put out a fire near an electrical transformer at a substation located near CSX on Ohio Street Thursday afternoon.

Fire officials say a transformer exploded and caused a fire and power outage on Ohio Street near the CSX yard.

Fire officials say there is a power outage in the area, but it is unknown how many are impacted by the outage.

Traffic is asked to avoid the area at this time, there was no word given on if any injuries occurred.

A spokesperson for National Grid tells 7 Eyewitness News that the fire "was close to the Ohio Street substation but it was not on our property or threatening our equipment."
