Tips to keep you safe during the heat

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Here in Buffalo, it's simply been hot and sticky outside, especially July 4th and 5th. But even despite this heat, so many people are flocking outdoors to enjoy the sunshine after a long winter.

Scott Karaszewski is with AMR Ambulance Service in Buffalo. He has a few tips to keep cool in this heat.

  • Wear loose, light-colored clothing
  • Stay hydrated
  • Avoid alcohol and sugary drinks
  • Utilize shade

The Red Cross also has these tips when it comes to heat safety.

  • Stay hydrated
  • Stay indoors if possible
  • During the hottest part of the day, avoid any strenuous exercise
  • Avoid extreme temperature changes
  • Check on family and neighbors without air conditioning
