MAYVILLE, N.Y. (WKBW) — Jim Quattrone, the new Chautauqua county sheriff, didn't waste a second of his new job, and got to work immedietley.

He decided to get sworn in at midnight, so he could meet with some of the night crew at a jail and talk with them about the upcoming year.

A long time law enforcement professional, Quattrone, beat the 23-year incumbent Joe Gerace.

On the top of Quattrone's to do list is to combat the opioid epidemic.

"Work our best to eradicate the drug problem you know work towards a resolution to the drug epidemic that has affected so many lives," Quattrone said.

He said he plans to do this by uniting the surrounding police departments so they can work more cooperatively towards a common goal.

"Drug task force working together more effectively working together as a unit."

Quattrone also said he wants to see more career training in jails.

"Proper programming so when they get out released from the jail they are able to go out and find employment."
