BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A local small business on Hertel Avenue announced it will be closing its doors due to safety concerns because of COVID-19. The Second Reader Bookshop sold used books in the Buffalo area for 18 years.

"Money's been tough, but our biggest concern is how to be safe," said John Rigney, Co-owner of the shop.

Dana and John Rigney announced the news on Facebook.

This is the second business on Hertel to close, following Pastry by Camille. They've only ever closed their doors once before to go on vacation. Owners say it's a tough decision they were forced to make in order to protect customers and employees.

"Books are important, but they aren't worth your life," said Rigney.

They'll still be selling books online here.
