It was a tense few moments for workers and parents inside the EverPresent Church in Batavia on Sunday.
According to Church Pastor Jason Norton, a man took a toddler from the nursery. Norton said the suspect brought the toddler into the church sanctuary and sat down next to the boy. A worker came in and took the boy back. We’re told the man immediately left the church.
Norton estimated the incident happened around 11:30 a.m. while he was presiding over a church service. He also said the child was not harmed and no one was arrested at the time.
He said the suspect appeared to be in his 70’s. Norton also said it's unclear whether the man was having a dementia moment. He said the incident lasted about a total of 60 seconds.
Norton said the man will now face charges.
“We called the police to be on the safe side,” Norton said.
He said they are also looking into additional security measures at the church moving forward.
