BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Governor Cuomo announced a $10 million investment in Northland Workforce Training Center Tuesday.
It’ll come in the form of a partnership between SUNY Empire State College and the center to help offset costs and barriers to education for students.
It will do a few things:
- Establish a bachelor’s degree program and over 800 online course offerings
- It will lessen the time and cost of getting a degree by using a “prior learning assessment” that takes into account previous life experience and job training for a position to give college credit towards tuition
- bring a school of labor to northland and establish a hub
- Enhance support for non-academic barriers to education like transportation, tools, childcare, and the cost of books.
This will be a 5 year partnership.
