State trooper seriously hurt in weekend crash released from hospital

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A New York State trooper seriously injured in an early morning crash Saturday on the I-190 north has been released from the hospital.

Trooper Randi Murphy-Motley was sitting in her patrol car behind a Budget rental truck around 5:30 a.m., with the emergency lights on, when her vehicle was hit by a 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe, according to state police. The impact pushed the trooper's vehicle into the rental truck.

The driver of the Tahoe, Devere Thomas, 25, and a passesnger, Karmella Hutcherson, 19 - both of Buffalo - were taken to ECMC with minor injuries.

Trooper Murphy-Motley, an 18-year veteran of the state police, was treated for serious injuries.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing, investigators said.
