BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A start-up company on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus has shut down, putting 18 people out of work.

HarkerBIO LLC, founded in 2014, was a spin-off of the Hauptman Woodward Medical Research Institute.

Employees were notified of the closure today.

"The initial results the company was able to achieve simply have not been sustained, and are not sufficient to support operations," the company said in a statement.

The biotech company "focused on using biophysical characterization to bridge the understanding between cheimstiry and biology," according to its Linkedin page.
