BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Town of Evans is issuing a warning on a STAR exemption scam targeting seniors.
It is reported that scammers are calling seniors claiming to be from Erie County. The county has nothing to do with STAR exemption.
Town Assessor Jeneen Hill says people should not give out any personal information over the phone regarding their STAR exemption.
You are asked to hang up if you do receive a call and then contact the assessor's office at 549-5752.
