GENESEO, NY (WKBW) — Seventeen air crew members will be a part of a special tribute Saturday morning and afternoon.

Operation Thanks From Above is a mission of gratitude featuring "Whiskey 7" a Douglas C-47 WWII airplane, and "Mad Max", a P-51 Mustang.

"If we can take an airplane like this whose hay day was in the 1940's and use that as a symbol of success and freedom, it's bringing two generations together," said Whiskey 7 chief pilot Chris Polhemus. "It's just a real nice tribute."

Crews will leave Geneseo Saturday morning and make their way West to the Southern Tier and Buffalo areas. The planes will fly over 95 checkpoints and nearly 600 nautical miles.

"Not only is this a mission of gratitude, but this is almost a "that a boy", " Todd Cameron of the National Warplane Museum said. "Everybody needs a little good news and a reason to look up and smile."
