BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Erie County SPCA announced Charlie the dog, who was found emaciated in a garbage tote by Buffalo Sanitation workers was euthanized Friday night due to his health and aggressive behavior he recently displayed.

Following Charlie's recent aggressive behavior, combined with his health, SPCA officials determined it was not safe to rehabilitate him and he was euthanized Friday night.

Officials say he exhibited signs of a dog trained to fight and it is believed he was subjected to dog fighting.

The SPCA says he began to display the behavior earlier this week and was a danger to himself, other dogs and caregivers.

"The most humane thing for Charlie was to make this call," a spokesperson for the SPCA said.

The investigation into who left Charlie in a garbage tote is still ongoing, the award for information has been increased to $2,475.
