Snowmobile operator charged in crash that injured 11-year-old boy

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A Gowanda man is facing charges for a January snowmobile crash that injured an 11-year-old boy.

Ronald Chmielewski, 33, is charged with a felony count of vehicular assault and a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child.

According to the Erie County Sheriff's Office, Chmielewski was impaired while operating a snowmobile in the Town of Collins on January 26. He hit a tree, injuring himself and his young passenger.

The boy was taken to Oishei Children's Hospital with multiple injuries. Five months later, he continues to recover from his injuries.
