BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Audra McDonald, the most decorated performer to star on Broadway, has a date with the crown jewel of Buffalo's theatre district.

The Tony, Grammy and Emmy winner will headline Shea's Black-Tie Gala on April 25.

With six Tonys to her name, McDonald has won more awards from the American Theatre Wing than any other actor in the history of the Great White Way. In addition, McDonald received the 2015 National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama.

"Audra McDonald is one of the most dynamic and multi-faceted performers to take the stage on Broadway," said Michael Murphy, president of Shea's Performing Arts Center. "To have someone of her exceptional talent and extraordinary artistic ability perform at Shea's Gala is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that we are honored to present."

The gala is the single most important fundraising event for Shea's.

The historic theatre, built in 1926, has hosted the first two of a seven-show Broadway series for the 2019-2020 season. Still up this season: the 50th Anniversary Tour of Jesus Christ Superstar, Hello, Dolly!, The Band's Visit, Anastasia, and Jimmy Buffett's Escape to Margaritaville.

A special engagement of Jersey Boys returns to Shea's Friday through Sunday.
