BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — New York Senior Senator Charles Schumer announced Thursday the Senate has passed legislation that would crack down on robocalls.

Since January 1, New York State has been hit with more than 1.2 billion robocalls, according to the senator's office.

The TRACED Act would give federal agencies new tools and authority to trace, prosecute and enforce fines against robocall scammers, as well as establish new requirements related to call authentication technology that could filter out robocalls before they reach phones.

Senator Schumer is now calling on the House of Representatives to follow the Senate's lead and vote to pass the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act.
