HAMBURG, N.Y. (WKBW) — The United States Army Corps of Engineers are set to begin construction on the current break wall dividing Lake Erie and Route 5. The old wall will not be updated or replaced, instead, a newer wall will be built against it. The new wall will be 40 feet deep into Lake Erie and serve as a buffer to intense waves that head towards the state route. In addition to the wall there will also be a splash apron that will absorb water that made its way over the wall and catch any debris that would otherwise be in the road.
