CITY OF TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WKBW) — Voters have approved a plan to consolidate three elementary schools into one.
The proposal called for Riverview and Mullen Elementary Schools in the City of Tonawanda to close. All elementary school students will go to Fletcher.
The consolidation plan was pitched as a way to save money, rather than spending $70 million to repair all three schools.
The vote was 883 votes for (64.9%) to 478 (35.1%) against. A 60% majority was needed for passage.
The schools will be consolidated by 2023.
