'Salt' away your stress at Clarence's new floatation therapy spa

CLARENCE, N.Y (WKBW) — Did you know a pool of ultra-salty water can help you truly unplug and relax?

It's called floatation therapy. Each salt pool, whether it's a pod or a wave room, is filled with more than 1,000 pounds of epsom salt. This means the water is heavy in magnesium, an important mineral in helping you relax, relieve pain and de-stress. You'll go in, shower, get into the water, turn off the lights and disconnect. The water is the same temperature as your body, giving you the feeling of zero gravity.

Katrena Avent, a registered nurse, is the founder of Ascend Float Spa in Clarence. She worked in the medical field for years and decided after a float session that she wanted to bring floatation therapy to Western New York in a way that it hasn't been before. The spa at 8825 Sheridan Drive has both the "pod" and wave rooms, which all have their own private changing areas and showers. People who suffer from pain, high blood pressure, stress or have trouble with mindfulness could benefit from a float session.
