BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Roswell Park Cancer Institute laboratory is set to be one of six labs across the stat of New York to test samples for Covid-19. Governor Andrew Cuomo announced the labs earlier this week. Roswell Park will be the only lab in Western New York testing for the virus.

"We're delighted to provide that service," said Dr. Candace S. Johnson, the president and CEO of Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Dr. Johnson insists this will pose no threat to the patients being treated at the cancer institute. She say all samples sent to the hospital's lab will be from nose swabs. No people with symptoms of this type of coronavirus will come to Roswell Park to be tested.

"When and if cases are detected in Western New York, we'll be able to isolate folks, to isolate this virus. Being able to test and get those results in a rapid fashion will be a good thing for all of us in this community," added Dr. Johnson. "Situations like this call for all hands on deck, and we readily signed on to be part of the collaborative effort to diagnose any cases of COVID-19 accurately and as quickly as possible for our community.”
