ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WKBW) — A grand jury has indicted the embattled mayor of Rochester on campaign finance charges.

Mayor Lovely Warren is charged with first-degree scheme to defraud and illegally coordinating activities and expenditures, Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley announced. Both charges are connected to her 2017 re-election campaign.

Warren maintains she did nothing illegal. She will be arraigned Monday afternoon.

Warren has already faced growing calls to resign for her handling of the death of Daniel Prude, a Black man who was naked and lost consciousness in March after police held him down with a hood over his head on a city street. He died a week later after he was taken off life support.

Warren suspended the seven officers involved in Prude’s death last month after his family released police video from that night.
