CATTARAUGUS TERRITORY, N.Y. (WKBW) — Today, the Seneca Nation and Western New York is in mourning following the death of Barry Snyder Sr.
According to the Seneca Nation, their former leader passed away on Tuesday following a brief illness. He was 79.
Revered by members of the Seneca Nation, Snyder is being remembered as a visionary as well as a respected and influential business and political leader.
“Barry served our Nation during our time, but he will deservedly be looked upon as a leader for all times,” said Seneca Nation President Rickey Armstrong, Sr., a longtime friend and associate of Snyder’s. “Throughout his life and through his service, Barry elevated the Seneca Nation and the Seneca people. As President, he touched every facet of life on our territories.”
In addition to his wife, Snyder is survived by two sons, a sister, two brothers, his grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandson and numerous relatives and friends. Mr. Snyder was also a proud member of American Legion Post #1587.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Addison Funeral Home in Angola.
