BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is once again making it clear to New Yorkers---he is serious about legalizing recreational marijuana in 2021.

Cuomo wants to enact the cannabis regulation and taxation act, regulating and controlling the production, distribution, transportation and sale of cannabis and cannabis products.

In his address Tuesday, he says it's best to include in the budget.

Cuomo says legalizing recreational marijuana and including it in the budget will bring in $20 million in 2021, and $63 million in 2022.

Some, like Kyle Belokopitski with the New York State Parent Teacher Association say this is dangerous for NYS children.

"The health and welfare of one child isn't worth a million dollars, it isn't worth all the money in the universe if one child is harmed," she said.

Belokopitski says research shows states with legal recreational marijuana like Colorado are seeing an increase in acute marijuana intoxication for children.
