ALBANY, N.Y. (WKBW) — One local lawmaker wants to give you a break on traffic ticket payments.

Assemblymember Pat Burke (D), of Buffalo, is sponsoring the Traffic Ticket Relief Act.

It is currently being reviewed by the transportation committee.

The proposed legislation would allow hearing officers to reduce a fine, based on a person's inability to pay. It would also create an installment payment option.

The officer would be authorized to request documentation to assess eligibility for relief. According to state data, the average speeding ticket in New York ranges from $45 to $600.
