LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WKBW) — Niagara County's new budget proposal includes the lowest property tax rate in nearly forty years.

The tentative spending plan comes with a price tag of $368 million, and still needs to be approved by county lawmakers.

County officials say the property tax rate is actually nearly 30 cents less than the 2019 budget rate, decreasing to $6.73 per $1000 of assessed value.

Niagara County Manager Richard Updegrove (R-Lockport) says that tax rate is the lowest since 1983.

The Niagara County Legislature will vigorously review the budget proposal, before voting on it in December.
