BROCKPORT, N.Y. (WKBW) — A level 2 registered sex offender stands accused of pretending to be a college student to lure a woman to meet with him when she was then allegedly sexually assaulted.

New York State Police arrested David L. Castaneda of Brockport on Monday and charged him with criminal sexual act 1st degree and 12 counts of falsifying a business record for allegedly filing false records with the SUNY Brockport college.

Investigators say Castaneda posed online as a SUNY Brockport student on social media accounts, convincing the victim to meet him in person. Castaneda allegedly then had forcible sexual contact with the victim.

Castaneda, originally from Bergen, is on the sex offender registry after he used a cellphone to record a female victim in a bathroom stall at the Byron-Bergen High School in 2016, according to the Batavia Daily News.

Castaneda was arraigned at the town of Sweden Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail.

Police say Castaneda may also be known as David Castaneda Trejo or David James and there could be other victims. If anyone has information on David Castaneda please contact the New York State Police at Canandaigua at 585-398-4100.
