Police: one woman dead, another injured after overnight shooting

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A 21-year-old woman is dead following a shooting early Sunday morning, according to police.

Buffalo police say the shooting happened in the 300 block of Koons Avenue around 12:45 a.m.

Police were called for reports of shots fired in the area of Koons Avenue and Walden Avenue in connection with a large outdoor block party.

Investigators say the woman was shot and possibly run over by a vehicle.

Police say the woman was taken to Erie County Medical Center where she later died.

According to police, a 22-year-old Niagara Falls woman was also shot and possibly also hit by a vehicle. The woman has been treated and released from ECMC.

Detectives say a handgun was recovered near the scene.

Police say they continue to investigate.
