LEWISTON, N.Y. (WKBW) — Police in Lewiston are now hunting for the vandal(s) who targeted the Our Lady of Fatima Shrine.

According to the Barnabite Fathers, the incident happened overnight between May 28-29. Several statues were damaged, two of them severely. Staff members say a large urn was also pushed over as well as granite benches and a marble pillar.

Damages are still being assessed but could reach $50,000.

According to Fr. Peter Calabrese, the "Fatima Shrine seeks to be an Oasis of Peace for pilgrims as we promote love for Jesus in the Catholic Tradition and devotion to the Blessed Mother according to the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima."

Despite the damage, the shrine is fully open for pilgrims. Upcoming events such as the Healing Mass on June 2, the St. Kateri Pilgrimage on June 8 and the Garden Party and Flower Show on June 15 will go on as scheduled.

Anyone with information is asked to call Lewiston Police at 716-754-8477.
