Police: 19-year-old charged after stealing vehicle in Amherst

AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) — A 19-year-old man has been charged after a strong-arm robbery of a vehicle in Amherst on Monday, according to police.

Officers responded to a gas station in the 200 block of Grover Cleveland Highway for the report of the robbery.

Police say the stolen vehicle was located after a short pursuit in the area of North Forest and Audubon Parkway.

Justin Anderson is charged with possession of stolen property, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and resisting arrest, with more charges pending, according to police.

A daycare in the area was placed in a temporary lockdown during the incident.

Police say an officer suffered minor injuries while taking Anderson into custody.

The incident remains under investigation.
