SUNDAY MARKED A SPECIAL DAY FOR LOCAL ROMAN CATHOLICS. — Sunday marked a special day for local Roman Catholics.
The OLV National Shrine and Basilica celebrated the 84th anniversary of the day that Father Nelson Baker passed away.
The actual anniversary is in July, but the celebration had to be postponed this year because of COVID-19.
Sunday's celebration coincided with a very special fundraiser in honor of the man who built the basilica in the 1920's.
It's called Pennies from Heaven.
People left spare change on the sidewalk and stairs leading to the basilica.
Father Baker raised money to build the basilica by asking for spare change donations from across the country.
Father Baker has completed the first of three steps necessary to become a saint.
