Overnight fire in East Amherst causes $400,000 worth of damage

AMHERST, N.Y. (WKBW) — Firefighters battled an overnight fire in East Amherst that they said caused tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage.

The fire broke out around 1 a.m. Wednesday at a Muegel Road home. Multiple fire companies responded, including East Amherst, Swormville and Clarence Center.

Firefighters said it started in the garage, and the family that lives inside escaped before fire companies arrived. Its unknown if any of them were injured as a result of the fire.

The 7 Eyewitness News photographer on scene said half of the home appeared to be badly burned.

Premlimary damage estimates from firefighters were said to be $300,000 to the home and $100,000 to its contents.
