BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) discovered one and a half pounds of marijuana at the Peace Bridge Tuesday.
CBP says a 29-year-old citizen from the Netherlands was crossing the Peace Bridge in a taxi and claimed to be returning from a short trip to Niagara Falls.
The subject was referred for secondary inspection. Upon secondary inspection officers discovered a small speaker which contained 10 vacuum sealed packages of marijuana.
"This was an outstanding job by our front-line officers," said Acting Buffalo Port Director Richard Roberts. "Our officers possess keen observational skills and in this case, were able to determine that this subject required further inspection. During the course of their inspection, they were able to utilize their experience and skill-set to identify an anomaly that resulted in the discovery of narcotics.”
The subject and the marijuana were turned over to Buffalo Police.
CBP says the subject faces felony criminal possession of marijuana charges.
