OLEAN, N.Y. (WKBW) — Officer Daniel McGraw is more than a School Resource Officer at Olean High School.

His job, he said, is to do anything he can to help kids.

"I help them with problems they may have at home, help them with problems they may have at school," said McGraw.

During his time at Olean High School, officer McGraw became such close friends with students of all grade levels, that he received the Youth Officer of the Year award from the State of New York Police Juvenile Officers Association.

He also helps the school's tech department, and visits students who might be having computer problems. Students will often visit him in his office when they need to talk.

"He's always there for us, as kids and students. Just a great person," said Stephen Hoffman, a junior at Olean High School.

"It's pretty much what I've done all my life. I'm pretty much a coach by nature, I've coached baseball and also soccer for like 20, 25 years. I've always been active in youth activities, have kids myself," said McGraw.

You can also find him at the school's football, baseball and basketball games.

"He's a great person, he's very supportive at our games - all of our games he's been there to make sure we're safe," said Nahzion James, a junior at Olean High School.

"I'm kind of humbled and honored to get this award," said McGraw.
