NYSP: driver arrested for wrong way crash on North Grand Island Bridge

GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WKBW) — One person has been arrested after allegedly causing a crash that shut down the North Grand Island Bridge Wednesday afternoon, according to the New York State Police.

Police say 37-year-old Andrew Chapman of Niagara Falls, NY, was traveling southbound in the northbound lane of the I-190 and caused a head-on crash. He was found to be intoxicated with a blood alcohol content determined to be 0.19%.

Chapman faces aggravated driving while intoxicated and reckless driving charges.

The wrong-way crash happened just before 4:30 pm on the bridge.

Minor injuries were reported from the crash.

NYSP are continuing to investigate.
