NYS Police look for new leads in 1983 cold case

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — New York State Police are investigating a 1983 cold case involving the homicide of a Florida woman found in Orleans County.

Authorities found the body on October 29 off State Route 63 in the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge, in the Town of Shelby. Police sa the vicitm was off the shoulder off the roadway and in a severely decomposed state. It's believed the woman's body was there for many months.

In October 0f 2013, the victim was finally identified as Shari L. Ball. She was reported missing by her family from Florida a few months before her body was found. Ball told her family she was coming to New York with an unknown friend to pursue a modeling career.

Ball was just 20-years-old and living in Boca Raton, Florida. She was also known to use the last name of Timmerman.
