BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Jody Fortson's path to the Kansas City Chiefs' practice squad was a long and winding one.

"I would say the difference between me and whoever else was trying to pursue this, or has ever done it, is that I just didn't quit," Fortson said.

Fortson graduated from South Park High School in 2013 and spoke to students in an assembly on Friday.

"It's just the beginning of what i plan and what I hope to do," Fortson said. "And it's an amazing feeling to come back to South Park and just see all the familiar faces and be able to inspire the next generation of great individuals."

While he visited his alma Mater, Fortson exchanged a signed Chiefs jersey for a Sparks helmet with his high school number on it. He also saw an old art project that his teacher hung onto for the last six years, per Fortson's request.

"She asked, 'you don't want to keep it?' and I said 'no, I'm going to make it to the NFL, and when I come back, you can give it to me.'"
