BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — A new proposal detailed by Governor Andrew Cuomo in his State of the State address would expand the Excelsior Scholarship to more middle class families.
Governor Cuomo was to raise the eligibility threshold from $125,000 to $150,000 of adjusted gross family income for New York's families. That would mean more than 230,000, or nearly 58 percent of New York resident students will be able to go to a SUNY or CUNY college tuition free.
The Student Assembly says it appreciates the Governor's support and praises the proposal because it provides more accessibility.
