NEWSTEAD, N.Y. (WKBW) — The Erie County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal crash in Newstead on Friday. They now believe weather conditions played a role in the crash that killed Ada Zambranapagan, 39 of Lockport.

The collision occurred around 7 a.m. on Maple Road between Swift Mills Road and Carney Road.

Witnesses tell police a SUV traveling north lost control and swerved into the path of a southbound vehicle. The southbound struck the SUV on the passenger side, and both vehicles careened off the roadway.

Members of the Newstead Fire Company had to extricate Zambranapagan from the SUV. She was transported to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital where she later died. The driver of the SUV and the driver of the second vehicle were transported to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of various, non-life-threatening injuries.
