TOWN OF VIRGIL, Ont. (WKBW) — Officers in Canada seized 1,031 marijuana plants from a property down the road from Niagara-on-the-Lake.

The Niagara Regional Police Service say officers executed a search warrant for a man who was tending to the marijuana plants Thursday in the Town of Virgil. Police determined that the suspect was operating an illegal grow operation and confiscated the plants.

Authorities estimate the plants had a street value of more than $1 million.

Officers arrested the man, but he was released without being charged. Police say they may choose to proceed with charges in the future.
