Body recovered from Niagara River identified as man wanted for attempted murder

FORT ERIE, CA (WKBW) — The Niagara Regional Police have found the body of a man who was last seen in the Niagara River and was wanted for attempted murder.

Police say three people were reported to be in distress in the Niagara River around 6:30 p.m. Friday in the area of Jarvis Street and Niagara Boulevard.

A bystander was able to rescue a 29-year-old woman and a young child.

The woman was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, she later died.

The child was also transported to an area hospital for assessment and is in stable condition Saturday afternoon.

The third person in the water has been identified by Niagara Regional police as 28-year-old Joshawa Raymond Douglas Brooks of Fort Erie, police say his body was recovered from the Niagara River around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police say he was wanted on an attempted murder charge in relation to the child that was recovered from the river.
