BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — There is growing support for several professional sports franchises in New York State that could lose an important designation.
The New York Times reported on Saturday that the Batavia Muckdogs and three other Minor League Baseball teams in New York State could soon lose their affiliation with Major League Baseball. The Muckdogs are currently an affiliate of the Miami Marlins in the Class-A New York Penn League.
42 minor league teams across the country could lose this designation. They would reportedly be reassigned into an independent "dream league".
On Thursday Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) announced that he will encourage MLB to work with local stakeholders to prevent this change from taking place.
